Hollywood actor Adam Sandler reached out to high school golf star Landon "Happy" Gilmore on Friday after the Indiana native verbally committed to attend Ball State University in the fall of 2024.

Sandler, 56, took to Twitter to express his support for the 17-year-old golfer, who goes by the same name as the actor's character in the 1996 comedy film Happy Gilmore.

"Go get 'em Happy," Sandler tweeted. "Pulling for you."

Sandler's character, Happy Gilmore, is a hockey player who manages to enter the PGA Tour due to his incredibly long drive of 400 yards.

Landon first started going by Happy at the age of nine after winning long-drive contest at the Pepsi Little People's Tournament in Quincy, Illinois.

Landon isn't tired of being Happy Gilmore

Going by "Happy Gilmore" in golf is bound to draw a few eyeballs, which Landon has learned to love, saying the name helps him with publicity when asked if it adds pressure.

"Not at all," Gilmore said. "... It'd be hard for me to sit here and say it hasn't [inspired me]. It's definitely helped me publicity-wise."

Landon reacted to Sandler mentioning him on Twitter, telling Golf Digest he was speechless at first.

"When I saw that Adam Sandler retweeted my tweet, my little heart kind of fell apart there," Gilmore added. "I was speechless and didn't really know what to do with myself for a minute."
